Yes. Every ship has built-in storage, and ships seat several passengers, including villagers and animals.

Ships are repaired with building materials such as planks. The exact method depends on the mod version, so check the notes for the file you installed.
Multiplayer and safety
Does Small Ships Mod work in multiplayer?
Yes. The server and every player must install the same version of the mod, otherwise you will see a mismatched mod list error when joining.
Is Small Ships Mod safe to download?
